KATELYNN

I just remembered, I think my step mom said she was bipolar, too.

RACHEL

Really, she called herself that?

KATELYNN

Yeah, she would tell us she had something, maybe she said bipolar or maybe she said something else. I don’t remember. I don’t know if she was ever actually diagnosed...or in treatment. I guessed she was, you know, mentally ill, but I didn’t know what with. I probably believed that she was bipolar or whatever she told me she was, cuz I didn’t know what that was or what it looked like. Never thought about manic depression really, until now...‘Now’ meaning since I met you.

RACHEL nods.

KATELYNN

What does it feel like to you? How does it make you feel?

RACHEL

It makes me feel...sensitive. All of the time. To emotions, to light and sound, to people...Sensitive. To concepts, and ideas, and cosmic forces...It makes me feel like I have no control.

There is a lot of space between her words during this conversation, she really wants to get her answers right.

KATELYNN

All of the time?

RACHEL

No...And out of control internally, not externally...It tricks me, it tricks me into hating myself sometimes...It makes me feel extreme.

KATELYNN

All of the time?

RACHEL

Yes. Be it extremely sad, extremely euphoric, extremely shameful, extremely tired, extremely numb, extremely apathetic, extremely confused, extremely irritable, extremely playful, extremely rebellious.

Logo for dating app: “HER”.

We see the loading circle moving, in time with the swirly twirly chords of the beginning of the song, with the text above it “Finding Babes”.

INT. RACHEL’S BATHROOM- DAY

RACHEL is sitting naked on the toilet in sunlight, phone in her hand. The song continues as if played from her computer in another room. She looks not bored but not engaged. She goes to her messages screen, and notices a new one from KATELYNN, she smiles. Screen shows “katehopeteel: Hey :) Do you live in Austin?”

RACHEL clicks on KATELYNN's profile and scrolls through her pictures. Her back straightens, her face grows kinder, more blissful. She responds, screen shows: “raw-magnetism: Why yes, I do.”

She puts the phone down on the edge of the bathtub, stands up, flushes, washes her hands. Picks up the phone, screen shows: katehopeteel: I do too!

RACHEL grins.

BEGINNING TITLES

EXT. DOWNTOWN AUSTIN- DUSK

RACHEL is dressed up for Pride, walking passed the capitol at sunset. She meets up with a friend in the middle of the blocked off street, all the floats and vehicles for the parade starting to line up, they hug. They take pictures of each other posing on a pickup truck, and then get in the bed waiting for it to get darker.

EXT. DOWNTOWN AUSTIN- NIGHT

KATELYNN is in the crowd at the parade. She is looking intently at the passing floats, trying to spot RACHEL. She glances at her phone, looks back up at the bumping parade, glowing against a darkened late September sky.
